Does Georgia Require a Notary for Car Title Transfer?

How Georgia Title Transfers Work
In Georgia, transferring a vehicle title in a casual (private) sale is straightforward. The seller completes the title assignment on the back of the Georgia certificate of title, enters the buyer's full legal name, the sale date, and the odometer reading. Both the seller and buyer sign the assignment. The buyer then takes the signed title to their local County Tag Office to apply for a new title and registration.

The seller fills out and signs the back of the title. The buyer signs to accept ownership. No notary seal is required by Georgia law for this step.
Bill of Sale (T-7)
Georgia recommends a Bill of Sale for private sales. It documents the transaction price, VIN, and sale date. Notarization is optional but adds a layer of fraud protection.
7-Day Deadline
Title and registration must be completed within 7 days of the purchase date to avoid penalties.
